Chatham-Kent election results — Wards, Trustees

With all of the polls reporting in Chatham-Kent's 2018 municipal election, the unofficial results are in.

And it appears voters are pushing for change across the area with two long-term councillors failing to be re-elected.

While the results are not official until they are reviewed by the Chief Returning Officer, it appears Darrin Canniff will be Chatham-Kent’s new mayor, ousting incumbent Randy Hope.

Voters have also boosted the number of females in council seats, with seven women set to serve.

A total of 34,722 votes were cast by 45.44 per cent of eligible voters during this year's election, which is an increase of 3.34 per cent from the last municipal election in 2010.

Ward 1 – West Kent (Two seats)

After serving Tilbury and the surrounding area in one form of government or another since 1972, Bryon Fluker's tenure has come to an end.

Incumbent Mark Authier has been re-elected and newcomer Melissa Harrigan is taking the second seat.

Ward 2 – South Kent (Three seats)

Another long-time politician is out -- this time in South Kent.

Frank Vercouteren, who has represented the area on Chatham-Kent council since amalgamation in 1997, and served on Blenheim Council before that, has been ousted in Ward 2.

Trevor Thompson led the way, with first-time councillors Anthony Ceccacci and Mary Clare Latimer winning the other two available seats.

Vercouteren only missed the seat by 70 votes, with 1,840 to Latimer's 1,910.

Ward 3 – East Kent (Two seats)

No upsets in East Kent as incumbent councillor Steve Pinsonneault led the way for the voting total in Ward 3.

He is joined by newcomer John Wright, replacing outgoing councillor David VanDamme, who is trying his hand at federal politics.

Ward 4 – North Kent (Two seats)

In North Kent, incumbent Joe Faas was returned to office. He will be joined by first-time Chatham-Kent councillor Jamie McGrail.

Ward 5 – Wallaceburg (Two seats)

Another current councillor is being returned to office in the Wallaceburg-area, with Carmen McGregor returning to office. She'll be joined by first-time candidate Aaron Hall, who secured the second seat.

Ward 6 – Chatham (Six seats)

In Ward 6, a former Chatham-Kent councillor is making a triumphant return to municipal politics.

Marjorie Crew led the way, receiving more votes than incumbents Michael Bondy, Brock McGregor, and Doug Sulman, who were all re-elected (in that order).

The final two spots that were up for grabs in Chatham went to Karen Kirkwood-Whyte and Amy Finn.

Larry Vellinga narrowly missed a seat, with 5,698 votes to Finn's 5,753.

Lambton Kent District School Board

Scott McKinlay and Randy Campbell will represent the English school board in Wards 1, 2 and 3.

Janet Barnes was acclaimed Wards 4 and 5.

In Ward 6, Derek Robertson and Ruth Ann Dodman will take trustee roles.

St. Clair Catholic District School Board

In Wards 1 and 2, Brenda Rumble claims the trustee spot.

In Ward 3, Carol Bryden narrowly beats out Patricia Pook, with 330 votes to Pook's 307.

John Vantleck will be the trustee for Wards 4 and 5.

David Argenti was elected to serve as the trustee for Ward 6.

Conseil Scolaire Catholique Providence

Robert Demers and Louise Aitken have won trusteeships for the French separate board.
