Zombie walk through downtown Wallaceburg

Zombies are taking over Fountain Park in Wallaceburg.

Downtown Wallaceburg BIA is organizing a zombie walk, complete with a Thriller flash mob thanks to PURE Dance Academy.

Corey Marius, director at PURE says groups of dancers have been practicing for weeks.

“We’ve been practicing with students young and old, zombies of all ages,” said Marius. “The youngest is 6 years old.”

PURE opened a class to interested community members and got about 20 non-dancers signed up. All the classes will come together for the flash mob at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26.

“I’m looking forward to the size of the event,” said Marius. “It’s going to be pretty crazy to see 50 zombies come up from under the bridge and dance and take over Fountain Park.”

Sherri DeWolf, the Downtown Wallaceburg BIA coordinator, says she got the idea for the walk from a trip to Florida, where she’d participated in something similar.

“We invite Chatham-Kent to come out and enjoy this with us,” said DeWolf. “The bigger event it can be, the more likely we can do it on an annual basis.”

Anyone can come be a zombie in the first ever Wallaceburg walk. More than 400 people have marked themselves as “interested” in attending on their Facebook page.

Local businesses are also getting in the spooky spirit, with the James Street Eatery offering a $6.66 craft beer special. The Black Goose and The Stubby Goat will also have drink and food specials.

The BIA is encouraging everyone to bring a canned good donation for the Salvation Army.

“It’s quite forgiving as far as costume goes,” said DeWolf. “You can be as simple or as elaborate as you like.”

Makeup appointments can be made with Sketch from Studio 1 Freehand Freelance, with proceeds going to Studio 1 art workshops. Wallaceburg Shoppers Drug Marts will also do zombie makeup for participants for a $10 donation to the Salvation Army.
