Maroons crown Komoka 4-3

Eddie Schulz and Josh King scored twice as the Chatham Maroons beat the Komoka Kings 4-3 Sunday night at Memorial Arena.

Chatham leapfrogs the Kings in the GOJHL Western Conference standings, moving into third place with 16 points. Komoka stands pat in fourth with 14 points.

Kurt Watson continued his scoring ways, putting Komoka on the scoreboard first with a goal scored at 1:35 left in the opening period.

The Maroons roared back in the second period with three goals. Josh King scored his first of the night at exactly two minutes later to tie the game. Schulz put Chatham in the lead at 18:37, then King scored his second goal 27 seconds later for a 3-1 Maroons lead.

In the third period, the Kings came within one with a lamplighter from Liam Whittaker on the power play, but the Maroons got that goal back when Schulz scored his second goal of the game, also with a man advantage. Kings goalie Owen Say was pulled from the net for the extra attacker and Komoka came within one when Joel Mazzilli scored with 1:20 left in regulation. That would be all the offence the Kings would muster though.

Tristan Lewis had 21 saves between the Chatham pipes. Say had 24 stops for Komoka.

The Kings are back on the ice Saturday when they host the St. Thomas Stars. The Maroons return to action Friday night when they visit the St. Marys Lincolns. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. and all of the action can be heard live on CFCO Country 92.9FM/AM 630.
