Cookie campaign raises $8,800 for school lunches

More Chatham-Kent school children will have access to a healthy meal, thanks to cookies.

The popular Tim Hortons Smile Cookie campaign, held every year in September, raises money for 500 different charities across Canada. The full $1 from each cookie sold goes directly to chosen organizations.

Tilbury, Blenheim, Bothwell, Ridgetown and Thamesville Tim Hortons locations chose the Chatham Kent Student Nutrition program to receive the almost $9,000 from their cookie sales.

“All of the dollars donated go directly to purchasing healthy food and the equipment needed to provide nutritious food options at school,” said nutrition program manager Allan Davies.

The CK Student Nutrition program serves more than 8,500 children at area schools and is manned by almost 500 volunteers. The program offers breakfast, lunch or a snack to kids in need.

“With the support of our community and Tim Hortons we are making a difference,” said Davies.

In total, $8,800 was raised by the five locations.
