Fraud Investigation Leads to Charges
One Chatham man learned the hard way that the tap feature on his bank card is very convenient, regardless of who has his card.
The man reported he lost his tap enabled debit card last month. It was later discovered that $160 was charged to it without his knowledge or consent. There were eight separate purchases at various locations across Chatham.
Police arrested Theodore Weurch, 30, of Wedgewood Avenue in Chatham Sunday night.
He is charged with unauthorized use of a credit card, failing to comply with his probation order, and eight counts of fraud under $5,000.
He was released pending a future court date of November 6.
Executed Warrants
Chatham police caught a man wanted on an outstanding warrant by Peel police Sunday afternoon. The 44-year-old Chatham man was arrested and held in custody until Peel police could attend Chatham-Kent headquarters and transport him to Peel Region for court purposes.
In a separate incident early Monday morning, police located a woman wanted on outstanding warrants for failing to attend for her fingerprints, failing to attend court, drug possession, and causing a disturbance. The 37-year-old was released pending a future court date of October 24.
