Pick-up truck clipped by train near Thamesville

For the second time in just over a week, Chatham-Kent police have laid charges against a driver after a crash involving a train.

And once again, the driver who was allegedly at fault drove onto the tracks before a train came along.

Officers said someone driving a pick-up truck Monday morning stopped too close to some tracks that cross Base Line near Zone Road 4 just outside of Thamesville before a Via Rail train passed through and clipped the front end of the vehicle.

Police said no one was hurt as a result of the crash, but the damages were extensive -- they are estimated at $30,000.

The 64-year-old Thamesville man who was behind the wheel of the pick-up truck is charged with unsafely starting from a stopped position.

In a separate crash on September 30, a 23-year-old Chatham woman was charged with failing to stop at a railway crossing after a car was clipped by a train.
