Stealing a car and driving dangerously

A 29-year-old Chatham man is back out on the street after he was arrested in connection with a stolen vehicle investigation.

Chatham-Kent police said the man was identified as a suspect after someone stole an unattended vehicle that was left running in a parking lot on Lacroix Street in Chatham back on August 8.

Officers said the owner of the vehicle saw a man jump in and take off and tried to stop him, but wasn't able to prevent the suspect from driving off. The accused also allegedly backed into another vehicle during the getaway.

Police said they arrested a man in connection with the case Monday night, and charged him with stealing a motor vehicle, dangerous driving, and driving while disqualified.

The accused was later released from custody with a future court date.

Criminal harassment against a delivery man

Chatham-Kent police said a 27-year-old man has been charged and released after allegedly harassing a former co-worker for more than a year.

Officers said the man they arrested is accused of sending some harassing messages to a former co-worker through Facebook last summer.

Police said the alleged victim blocked the man, but he reportedly continued to make comments whenever he saw the victim making deliveries. He's also accused of spitting on the victim's delivery truck.

Officers said it escalated to the point where, last month, the man allegedly made the shape of a gun with his hand and pointed it at the victim. He's also accused of hitting the victim from behind this past weekend.

Police arrested a 27-year-old Chatham man in connection with the case and charged him with criminal harassment, uttering threats, and assault. He was released with conditions and a future court date.

Impaired e-bike driver

A 39-year-old woman is learning the hard way that you can be charged with drunk driving on an e-bike.

Police said they pulled over the woman at around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday after seeing her vehicle swerving across both lanes on King Street in Chatham.

After speaking with the woman, the officer who pulled her over gave her a roadside breath test, which she allegedly failed, so she was taken back to police headquarters for some more tests.

A 39-year-old Chatham woman is facing an impaired driving charge and was expected to be released from custody once she sobered up.

Boat and trailer stolen near Wallaceburg

Chatham-Kent police are trying to track down a boat and a trailer that were reported stolen just outside of Wallaceburg.

Officers said they were taken from a property on St. Clair Parkway sometime late Sunday night or early Monday morning.

The trailer is black with Ontario licence plate H7039A and the boat is a white 17-foot Wilker Galaxy model with "Fritz" written on the back.
