CK swimmer heads to Argentina for Youth Olympics

An 18-year-old local swimmer has backstroked her way to Buenos Aires, Argentina to represent Canada at the Youth Olympic Games.

Madison Broad will compete on the Canadian team during the games from Saturday until October 18. She is slated to compete in the 50, 100, and 200 metre backstroke, freestyle and medley relays, as well as the mixed medley relay.

Broad, a backstroker, qualified for her place on the team after competing at the Canadian Swimming Championships in Montreal in April.

“It’s an incredible opportunity for Maddy to swim at such a prestigious sporting event," Coach Kyle Pinsonneault. "She has worked hard for this spot and we are very proud of her. It just proves again that great athletes can come from a small community. We are so proud of her."

Broad also recently competed for Canada at Junior Pan-Pacific’s in Fiji this summer where she brought home three medals.

The Youth Olympic Games brings together 4,000 athletes between the ages of 15 to 18, from 206 countries to compete across 32 sports. It will be live streamed at CBCSports.ca.
