Two new doctors joining CKHA staff

The Chatham-Kent Health Alliance is welcoming two new doctors to its staff this month.

Dr. Steven Rioux is joining the team as a family medicine physician and Dr. Shannon Milkovic is coming in as a family medicine resident.

A release from the CKHA says Dr. Rioux grew up in the Kitchener-Waterloo area before graduating from the University of Western Ontario in London with a Bachelor of Medical Sciences. After that, he went on to St. George's University School of Medicine in Grenada for his Doctor of Medicine.

Before joining the CKHA, Dr. Rioux completed his residency at the St. John Hospital and Medical Centre in Detroit, earning an award from Wayne State University for his work with medical students.

"Chatham-Kent Health Alliance offers a nice facility and friendly staff which influenced my choice to join the organization," said Dr. Rioux. "I'm excited to be a part of the team and to live closer to family."

The second doctor to join the team, Dr. Shannon Milkovic, also graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a Bachelor of Medical Sciences. She later completed her studies at the University of Limerick, Ireland, where she earned a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 2018.

Dr. Milkovic also has some previous experience at the hospitals in Chatham-Kent -- she grew up in Chatham and while she was studying at UWO, she spent her summers volunteering in the CKHA's Ambulatory Care and Day Surgery departments.

"Although I enjoyed the opportunity to travel and study abroad, I look forward to being back in Chatham-Kent and serving the community that I grew up in," said Dr. Milkovic.

As a family medicine resident, Dr. Milkovic will spend the next two years learning from local physicians while completing the hands-on portion of her medical training.
