Winter coats needed

The Chatham-Kent Salvation Army is now accepting winter coats for its annual Operation Cover Up coat drive.

The drive started on October 1. Gently used winter coats can be dropped off at any of the Salvation Army thrift store locations in Chatham-Kent.

"We're looking for the community's help in collecting as many winter coats for men, women, and children to help us keep everyone warm this year," said Captain Karen Holland.

Coats can also be dropped off a Jiffy Lube on Keil Drive in Chatham until Saturday, October 27.

"Especially for the children and plus sizes," said Captain Holland. "Those seem to be the ones that we don't get as many of."

The coats will then be distributed from October 29 until November 17.

"People who are in need will come to any of our Family Services offices in Chatham, Ridgetown, Blenheim, and Wallaceburg, and also the Tilbury Help and Information Centre," said Captain Holland. "They have coupons, so they will get a coupon and from there they can take it to any of our thrift stores."

In 2017, Holland said over 500 jackets were handed out.
