Maroons drop one to London 3-1

A good start by the London Nationals meant trouble for the Chatham Maroons Sunday night.

The Maroons fell behind early and lost to the Nationals 3-1 at Memorial Arena. It was their first loss on the season but they remain in a four-way tie for third place in the GOJHL Western Conference standings with four points apiece. London remains unbeaten and is first with eight points.

Ryan McAllister scored the only goal of the opening period, at 12:10 to put the Nationals up 1-0.

The score remained that way until just after the start of the middle period, when London's Riley MacRae doubled the score to 2-0. The Maroons got on the board at 12:33 when Justin Badour scored on the power play. The Nationals went ahead by two goals once more when Noah Tooke scored a power play goal just before the end of the period.

There was no scoring in the third, but the Maroons outshot London 14-8.

Zachary Springer was the winning goalie for London, stopping all but one of Chatham's 43 shots. Tristan Lewis had 28 saves in the loss for Chatham.

The Nationals will next host Sarnia on Wednesday night. The Maroons head to St. Thomas on Friday night. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. and you'll be able to hear the action live on CFCO Country 92.9FM/AM 630.
