Shoplifting Arrest In Chatham

A 20-year-old Chatham man is facing charges in connection with a late night shoplifting investigation.

Officers say the man is accused walking into a business on Queen St. in Chatham at around 11:20pm Wednesday, stuffing about $200 worth of property into a duffel bag, and then leaving the store without paying for the items.

Police say the security alarm went off at the exit door when the man left the building.

Two Chatham-Kent police officers who were already in the parking lot of the business investigating a separate incident arrested the man and recovered the stolen property.

Officers say the man they arrested has been charged with theft and possession of stolen property and was released with a future court date.

He Just Couldn't Stay Away

Chatham-Kent police say a 29-year-old Thamesville man is in more trouble with the law after he allegedly showed up at a specific woman's residence Wednesday night even though he had been ordered to stay away from her.

Officers say when the man was released from custody back in July, he was ordered not to contact or communicate with a specific woman and to stay at least 100m away from her residence.

Police say despite those orders, officers allegedly found the man in the woman's residence after getting a tip from someone who said he was there.

Officers arrested the man and charged him with two counts of breaching his release conditions. He's being held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Uninsured Vehicle Pulled Off Of Hwy. 401

If your vehicle doesn't have insurance, it could be pulled off the road.

Chatham-Kent OPP say that's what happened to a 44-year-old Wallaceburg woman who was pulled over for speeding on the Hwy. 401 near Orford Rd. Monday afternoon.

Officers say the vehicle was stopped in the westbound lanes after it was allegedly recorded going 130 km/h in a 100 km/h zone.

Police say after speaking with the driver, they learned the vehicle wasn't properly insured, so they had it towed from the roadway.

The driver is now charged with speeding and operating a motor vehicle without insurance.
