Trio Charged With Being In Possession Of Stolen Property

Something as seemingly insignificant as trailer lights not working has three men in big trouble with the law.

Sunday morning, police observed a black GMC Jimmy pulling a camping trailer northbound on Princess St. in Chatham. Officers initiated a routine traffic stop due to the back lights not working and found out the plates on the trailer were stolen.

A 33-year-old and 39-year-old of no fixed address along with a 36-year-old Thamesville man were all arrested and charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, but the fun didn't stop there.

Police say the 33-year-old allegedly had a knife, cocaine, and methamphetamine on him. Police charged him with being in possession of a prohibited weapon, failing to comply with his prohibition order and two counts of drug possession.  He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Officers said the 39-year-old was also searched and allegedly had methamphetamine on him as well. He was also charged with drug possession and released pending a future court date of Sept. 20.

Nothing was found on the 36-year-old who was released pending a future court date of Sept. 20.

Man Charged With Obstructing a Peace Officer

You have to wake up pretty early int he morning to pull a fast over on the Chatham-Kent police and, needless to say, one man didn't set his alarm early enough.

Police said they saw a man pulling a stand up air compressor on August 21, shortly after 11pm. According to the officer, everything seemed in order after a quick investigation and the man was sent on his way.

Police said a short time later, the officer learned that the man had falsely identified himself during their interaction.

On July 25, the man was released from the Courthouse with several conditions.  One of those conditions stated that he was to obey a daily curfew of 10pm to 6am.

The 47-year-old Chatham man was located Monday morning, arrested and charged with failing to comply with his curfew condition and obstruct peace officer.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
