Dresden's "Night Market" So Nice, They're Doing It Twice

It will be a party in downtown Dresden next weekend as it's bringing a summer twist to a successful winter event.

The first Dresden Summer Night Market will be held Saturday, August 18 as the downtown core will be pedestrians only.

According to organizer Tyler Ouellette, the shops will be open later, there will be food trucks set up, vendors, and a pop-up patio bar serving local beer and wine.

Ouellette said to top it all off, it will also act as a fundraiser for the local youth centre.

"It's a local charity that does a lot for the youth in town," Ouelette said. "They will be there with a lemonade stand selling drinks and popcorn. There's no set goal, just to raise additional funds for their program."

Ouellette said the idea started between him and his friends last year and was only meant to be a Christmas event. He added after it was so successful, people kept asking for a summer version. The organizer said they had to go a lot bigger if they wanted to do a summer one and that's exactly what they've done.

"We have a huge area shut off for the summer one," Ouellette said. "It's pretty much the whole downtown core. The Christmas one was pretty much just the lights [at North St. and Main St.] to the post office, so we've pretty much tripled it."

Ouellette said one section will be focused on local businesses, which will have sidewalk sales and be open as late as 11pm He added many of the "street vendors" specialize in handmade goods.

There will also be live music featuring Jessica Rabbit Band and Jacklyn Wills.

The event starts at  5 p.m. and will run until 11 at night.
