Local Plowing Match Today

Residents are gearing up for the 2018 International Plowing Match next month with the Chatham-Kent Plowing Match.

Lands will be drawn at 9:30 am, and a new Queen and Princess of the Furrow will be crowned.

"They have to participate in an interview, a speech, and plow as well. So they're marked on all three of those, and that is how you become Queen," says Emma Richards, the current Queen of the Furrow. "The Princess is a similar competition, you just have your interview, speech, and they do it impromptu instead of the plowing."

The winners will represent Chatham-Kent at the 2019 IPM.

Chair Sarah VanLeeuwen says the plowing match is open to the public.

"Everyone is welcome to attend and come out and see the plowing. There also might be some horse plowing if some of the horesemen come out too, so that's always neat to see."

The match is taking place Saturday, August 11th on Bear Line Rd. just down the road from the IPM site near Pain Court. For more on the match, CLICK HERE.
