Bothwell Car Show On This Weekend

The Bothwell Car Show weekend is underway.

The event is put on the Bothwell Optimist Club, and starts with the automotive flea market in Victoria Park.

"Friday we have a giant parade going on," says Chair Dennis Smith. "Saturday morning, the great giant car show gets going, we have over 1,000 antique cars in the park here to look at. Many activities in the park for kids to do, some bouncy castles, other rides, and horse and pony rides."

The car show goes Saturday, but Shaw says the biggest draw for some people is the 50-50.

"Last year the person walked out of here with over $30,000, his share. The firemen look after that, do a great job, and 4 o'clock in the afternoon we draw that. The place is pretty full, there's probably between 5,000 and 8,000 people standing around, waiting for that money."

You have to be in attendance to win the 50-50 draw.

Smith say all the money raised by the Optimist Club stays in the community.

"Goes back into our bicycle rodeo, our Easter egg hunt, our Christmas parade, all the events that we do for the kids all year long."
