Dresden Teen Takes Gold At 2018 Summer Games

A Dresden teen will go back to school in the fall having won gold at the 2018 Ontario Summer Games.

Gabriel St. Pierre, 14, along with the Region 3 division walked away with first prize in boys indoor volleyball. The competition was held in London over the long weekend.

"It was amazing to see all the talent from all the other regions... and compete against the best athletes in Ontario," he says.

St. Pierre says he and his teammates would train for about 4-5 hours a day, leading up to the competition. Even though the team had high-hopes going out onto the court, St. Pierre says he still wasn't expecting to walk away with the top prize.

"I was just really shocked at the end that we came out with gold," he says.

St. Pierre has yet to start high school but after getting a taste of competing in a large competition, he anticipates that he will participate more in sports -- especially volleyball.

"I can get a lot more into this kind of stuff," he says. "The only real experience I have [so far] is playing club volleyball for Chatham, for about two years now."

According to results posted online, Region 3 B came in first place after winning five matches, while Region 5 R placed second, having won five matches.
