Dog Euthanized After Attacking Man

An official with Chatham-Kent Animal Control Services says a dog has been put down and a woman has been charged after a man was attacked in Chatham.

Manager Jason Hamm says a man was bitten twice on the wrist by a dog while he was walking along Gray St. in Chatham on July 20.

The dog was described as a 2.5-year-old American Bulldog. Hamm previously told BlackburnNewsCK.com that the dog was tied to a wheelchair, but it was able to pull the wheelchair over to the man before biting him twice.

Hamm says a 54-year-old Chatham man sustained moderate injuries to his wrist. The man was taken to Chatham-Kent Health Alliance and has since been released.

A 58-year-old Chatham woman has been charged with multiple offences under the Dog Owners' Liability Act. On July 22, the dog was surrendered by the owner to Pet and Wildlife Rescue (PAWR).

Hamm says the dog, due to its high level of aggression, was humanely euthanized after completing Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit's bite quarantine procedure.
