Scorching hot temperatures are expected in the region this long weekend.

A heat warning is currently in effect for Chatham-Kent, London-Middlesex and Windsor-Essex.

Environment Canada says a hot and humid air mass is moving into the region. Daytime highs of 31c or higher are expected Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Humidex values will be in the mid thirties on Saturday and reaching near 40c on Sunday. Overnight lows will be near 21c, providing little relief from the heat.

A cold front is expected to move through the area on Tuesday.

The risks of heat-related illness are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, and people working or exercising outdoors. Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.
