An inspection of the Third St. bridge in Chatham has resulted in a complete closure of the roadway over the Thames River.

In a statement, the Municipality Chatham-Kent says during the municipality’s yearly inspection that began Friday, the bridge “was found to have areas of concern.”

The bridge was initially expected to only have intermittent lane restrictions until August 10. However, as a result of the inspection’s findings, the bridge will be closed to all vehicle traffic until further notice.  The bridge will still be accessible for pedestrians.

The municipality says it is currently working to complete temporary repairs to ensure the closue is as short as possible.
