It's Crunch Time To Run In The 2018 Municipal Election

Time is about to run out for residents looking to jump into the race for this fall's municipal election.

The deadline to file nomination forms is on Friday, July 27 at 2pm, which is also the deadline to officially withdraw from the race.

Election Coordinator Lucas Chambers says the number of candidates so far is similar to that seen during the 2014 municipal election.

"Currently we're just over 60 candidates that have registered for trustees, council, and mayor," he says.

Chambers says there have been a few more candidate registrations filed this week and they're expecting a couple more to come in when it gets down to the wire.

After Friday's deadline, Chambers says the municipality will answer questions candidates may have before they set out on the campaign trail.

"We will be having a candidate information night that we have sent out to all of the registered nominees," he says. "We will be going over the general rules and just be giving them information that they might need to help with their campaign."

Nomination forms can be found online or by visiting a municipal service centre.

Blackburn News posts weekly updates on candidates who have registered to run in the upcoming municipal election. A final list of candidates will be released Friday evening.
