Residents Ready To Kick Off The Weekend In Chatham

Downtown Chatham will be bouncing with events Friday night; one of which involves a lawn bowling fundraiser at Tecumseh Park.

Chatham Councillor and event organizer Brock McGregor says Lawn Summer Nights is an event that happens across the country to support Cystic Fibrosis Canada. However, this will be the first time it's happening in Chatham-Kent.

"This is our inaugural event. So far we have a number of teams registered... and there's still some opportunity if people want to stop in," he says. "[People] are able to purchase a social ticket so they can join us for a drink, watch the lawn bowling, [and] there will be some live music."

The event at Tecumseh park will start at 5pm. McGregor says money raised will go towards supporting the CF foundation.

"They're using that money for research, for support of their foundation," says McGregor. "This is really one of their key fundraisers throughout the year and we're excited that Chatham-Kent can be a part of that."

Even though there are only a few openings left for teams to play in the actual event, McGregor says there are plenty of social tickets for anyone who wants to stop by the park. He says people are welcome to watch the bowling, have some drinks, enjoy the live music, and take part in some raffle draws.

After stopping by the fundraiser, residents can also check out some of the other attractions in the downtown core.

McGregor says there will be a pop-up strip mall set up adjacent to the park where local vendors will be selling their products from 5pm - 9pm. There will also be an art crawl that will run from 5pm - 8pm, where people can pick up a map at ARTspace and then end up at Studio One for music and food.

"There will be a lot going on in downtown [Chatham], lots of opportunities to see some of the shops open a little bit later, participate in some events, and see some local artists," says McGregor.
