UPDATE: Damages Estimated At $300K After Fire

The Ontario Fire Marshal's Office has been called in to investigate a house fire in Raleigh Township.

Chatham-Kent fire crews say they got the call just after 4pm Sunday, adding by the time they arrived, the garage was already going up in flames and the fire had spread to the home.

A vehicle and a nearby fence were also exposed to the heat and the flames.

Fire officials say a working smoke alarm in the house warned the homeowner about the blaze, giving him enough time to escape uninjured.

The damages are estimated at $300,000.

If you want someone to test your fire alarm to make sure it is working properly, located in the right place, and not expired, you can contact the Chatham-Kent fire department at 519-360-1998 or visit at www.ckfes.ca.
