Spike In 911 Hang-Ups In Chatham

An influx of 911 hang-up and accidental calls kept Chatham-Kent police busy Saturday.

Officers were called to 35 hang-ups in a 24 hour period, Chatham-Kent police said.

They reminding anyone who accidentally calls the emergency number to stay on the line, otherwise the dispatcher will assume it is an emergency and send police, which eats up considerable resources .

The nearly three dozen calls also have police urging cell phone users to "lock it before you pocket" to avoid making accidental calls when your phone is tucked away.
