CK Plowmen's Association Looking To Crown Next Queen, Princess

Are you passionate about Chatham-Kent's agricultural community? You may have a shot at getting crowned this year's Chatham-Kent Queen or Princess of the Furrow.

Stephanie Campbell, Chatham-Kent Plowmen's Association secretary, says it's a great way to become a role model for your community.

"Typically this position requires someone who's fairly outgoing and just typically has a passion for agriculture and a passion for their community," says Campbell. "Lots of little girls will look up to them."

She says the girls selected to be the queen and princess will need to be really involved within the community.

"The Chatham-Kent Queen and Princess of the Furrow spend the year going out to community events within Chatham-Kent and really acting as an ambassador for our community, as well as agriculture and our local plowmen's association," she says.

Campbell says the girls chosen for the positions will go on to compete at the 2019 International Plowing Match (IPM) in Verner, West Nippising.

The competition will take place at the Chatham-Kent Plowing Match on August 11 at the farm of Larry Delrue at 24217 Bear Line Rd. in Pain Court. The winner will be announced at the Chatham-Kent Plowing Match banquet later that night.

Campbell says tickets will have to be purchased to attend the banquet, which will be held at the Country View Golf Course.

This year's IPM will feature two of the municipality's current Furrow royalty.

"Our current Chatham-Kent Queen of the Furrow Emma Richards will be representing Chatham-Kent and competing for the title of Ontario Queen of the Furrow come this September," says Campbell. "Jordan Wills is the current Princess of the Furrow and she will also compete on the Saturday of the International Plowing Match."
