Trucker Pleads Guilty To Role In Fatal Crash

Tears and sobs of both joy and sadness were seen at the Chatham Courthouse as a Brampton truck driver pleaded guilty to five charges in connection with a fatal crash that claimed the lives of a mother and son last year.

52-year-old Manjit Parmar pleaded guilty to two counts of dangerous driving causing death and three counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm and will be sentenced September 18, in Chatham.

The OPP charged Parmar after the transport truck he was driving smashed into the back of a pickup truck on Hwy. 401 near Dillon Rd. at around 4:30pm Sunday, July 30, 2017 which took the lives of a 42-year-old Amherstburg woman and her 14-year-old son.

The force of the collision caused a six-vehicle pile-up.

Lacie Brundritt and her son Kyle Brundritt were pronounced dead at the scene. Kyle’s 39-year-old father Michael, who was driving the pickup truck they were riding in, was airlifted to hospital from the scene with serious injuries.

The other 12-year-old son, Evan, was also in the vehicle at the time was transported by ambulance to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Michael Brundritt had planned to speak with media outside the courthouse after the plea but chose not to comment.
