More People Needed To 'Trot To The Beach'

Several residents will be trotting to the beach this weekend.

The 15th annual Trot to the Beach event is set to take place June 10 at 6am in Blenheim. Money raised through the run is split between different charities and organizations.

Organizer JP Huggins says they raised $16,000 last year. Funds were given to the Blenheim Youth Center, The Word Of Life Soup Kitchen, and The Blenheim Fire Department.

"Depending on how much money comes in [this year], we might tag a couple little more charities as well but the Word Of Life Soup Kitchen and the Blenheim Youth Center are the two main beneficiaries," says Huggins.

Those interested in participating can register the day of, but pre-registration is preferred. In order to encourage more people to do so, Huggins says they're offering a promotion in which people will get a $15 discount by using the code "GOTTOTROT" when registering online.

"It's kind of a last-minute push," he says.

Huggins says they typically see about 400 participants, depending on the weather. So far the forecast looks good for Sunday with sunny skies expected.

"Usually if it's good weather we'll get [about] 80-120 day-of registrants," he says.
