Enjoy Fireworks Safely This Weekend

If you're going to set off some fireworks over the long weekend, make sure you do it safely and responsibly.

That's the message from Chatham-Kent Fire and Emergency Services (CKFES).

An official statement from the service recommends that you attend a public fireworks show instead of having a family or informal neighbourhood display, to minimize the risk of any fires or serious burn injuries.

If you do want to purchase some for a private show, though, fireworks are now available for sale at stores across the region -- you'll be able to buy them from now until Canada Day.

CKFES is also reminding the public that fireworks can be set off up to three days before and three days after Victoria Day (May 21), but they can't be set off after 11pm. You're also limited to setting off fireworks on private property unless you have a permit from the municipality that says otherwise.

Fire officials have a list of other safety tips available on their website. You can find that by clicking here.
