Record Turnout, Fundraising Totals For CK Expo

The interest in CK Expo continues to grow in Chatham-Kent, but this year, the event really took off.

Rob Bellamy, one of the co-founders and co-organizers of CK Expo, says they set new record totals for their turnout and fundraising totals.

"Last year, we had just over 1,700 people and when we did our final count [Wednesday night] we found out we had just over 2,400 people," says Bellamy. "We're not 100% sure on the final [fundraising] numbers, but it's right around the $5,000 mark for Big Brothers Big Sisters."

Some of the main attractions at this year's event included a spaceship simulator, a batmobile, and Spencer "Spenny" Rice from Kenny vs. Spenny.

Bellamy says the event only had one small hiccup.

"There was a young child, probably around 3 years old who pulled the fire alarm," says Bellamy with a smile. "So, for 15 minutes everyone had to evacuate the buildings and then come back in."

Bellamy says they received a lot of positive feedback, adding that plans are already in the works for another CK Expo in 2019.

"Even the celebrities that I talked to that we had there... everybody said Chatham was an amazing place to be and they want to try to find other things to do down here," says Bellamy.
