Community Raising Money After Paraplegic Man's ATV Stolen

A GoFundMe page has been set up to raise money for a paraplegic man whose ATV was stolen.

Chatham-Kent ATV Club President Vince Masse says he found out in a local newspaper that Shawn Daley, who lives on Gregory Line in Chatham-Kent, had his ATV stolen recently.

He says Daley was paralyzed in a car accident 15 years ago and depends on his ATV to get to his job at Home Depot in Chatham.

"I recognized him from when I was at Home Depot Friday night and I just saw that someone stole his ATV. It was something he depended on quite a bit being paralyzed from the waist down and everything," says Masse. "That leaves him to depend on more people and it looks like he tries to be quite an independent person."

Masse says he decided to start up the GoFundMe fundraiser after speaking with members of the ATV club and friends of Daley's. He hopes the money raised will take some of the burden off Daley to purchase a new ATV.

"I'm looking for some generous people to many any size donation to try to help us reach our goal or to do the best we can to get him back on an ATV," he says.

According to Masse, used ATVs can range can anywhere from $3,000 to $10,000.

"Hopefully we can come up with enough funds...he has insurance but at the age of his ATV, he won't be getting much," he explains. "We did set a goal of $10,000. We'll just set the bar high and see where we go."

Masse says the GoFundMe page was set up Wednesday morning and has already raised $420 as of 1pm.
