CK Police Recover Stolen Gun, Boat Motor

Chatham-Kent police say they were able to recover a stolen gun and a stolen boat motor after pulling over a truck in Chatham Tuesday night.

Police say they also arrested the 31-year-old Chatham man who was behind the wheel of the vehicle at the time.

Investigators say an officer stopped the truck on King St. E because the driver is "known to be prohibited from driving due to unpaid fines." Once the officer was able to confirm the man was suspended from driving, he was arrested and police searched the truck.

Police say during that search, they found a gun case and a Johnson outboard boat motor that were both "in plain view" in the back seat.

The gun case reportedly contained a loaded Ruger 10/22 .22 calibre rifle that was reported stolen from a home on Siskind Crt. in Chatham in February. The boat motor was identified as one that was stolen from a business on Indian Creek Rd. on April 2.

Police say the man they arrested in connection with their investigation is now facing a number of charges including driving while under suspension, possession of stolen property, and "several" weapon-related offences.

Officers say he was held in custody pending a bail hearing, adding the truck was towed from the scene.
