Local Girl Collects Birthday Gifts Cards For CK Hospice

An 8-year-old girl is showing that sometimes it is better to give than to receive.

Officials with the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation say Leah Barnier recently gave them $375 in gift cards that she collected for her birthday instead of asking for presents.

A release from the Hospice Foundation says Leah has a special connection to the Hospice through a loved one, adding that Leah's friends and family responded generously to her request.

"Gift cards are a great way to help our Hospice families, especially in our kitchen, which one of the busiest spots at the Hospice," said CK Hospice Foundation Executive Director Jodi Maroney in a news release. "We are so touched by Leah's generous gesture to celebrate her birthday and to honour her loved one."

It's not the first time a young Chatham-Kent resident has stepped up to make a selfless donation, either.

Blenheim teen Rhys Dulisch has raised over $11,000 for the Hospice over the past two years through his Blenheim Soccer Dogs 3 on 3 Tournament.
