Police Briefs – Thursday March 8, 2018

No injuries were reported after a 25-year-old Brampton man allegedly fell asleep behind the wheel.

Chatham-Kent OPP say a vehicle crashed into a ditch on Hwy. 401 near Kent Bridge Rd. around 4am Thursday.

As a result, the 25-year-old has been charged with careless driving.


Chatham-Kent police are investigating an accident on Sixth Line involving a stolen vehicle.

Police say a black GMC Sierra truck crashed into a hydro pole between Dillon Rd. and Bloomfield Rd. Wednesday afternoon.

No one was at the scene when officers arrived. However, officers did find out that the truck was reported stolen from a home in Chatham. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 519-436-6600 ext. 83666, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).


A 54-year-old Dresden woman has been charged with failing to yield the right of way following a crash in Chatham.

Police say two vehicles crashed on Keil Drive S. Wednesday morning. One person was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

Damage is estimated at $18,000.

Shortly after, another two-vehicle crash happened on Richmond St. between Merritt Ave. and Industrial Rd. in Chatham.

No injuries were reported. However, a 19-year-old Tilbury woman was charged with following too closely.

Damage for that crash was estimated at $5,000.


A 31-year-old Chatham man has been charged with two counts of drug possession after police searched his home.

Police say they executed a search warrant on Wednesday. Cocaine and meth were seized.

The 31-year-old has since been released from police custody and will have to appear in court March 29.


A 28-year-old man has been charged with criminal harassment.

Police say the man was trying to get in contact with his ex-girlfriend since January.

After several warnings by police, the man was arrested on Wednesday and charged. He’ll have to appear in court March 28.


A suspect accused of breaking into a business in Wallaceburg has been charged.

Police say a 34-year-old woman was caught on video surveillance inside a business after hours Tuesday night. It’s alleged that she stole meat and cash.

Officers were able to identify the woman and make an arrest Wednesday afternoon.


An employee at a Chatham business received quite the shock Wednesday morning. Police say the employee found a half-clothed man inside the business located on St. Clair St.

It’s alleged that the man broke into the building at night and caused minor damage. Police say officers also found suspected methamphetamine.

A 31-year-old man has since been charged with break and enter and drug possession.
