Tilbury Man Cooks His Own Goose, Sort Of

A Tilbury man has been convicted of illegally hunting geese.

The man pleaded guilty to unlawfully baiting geese September 10, 2016 and was fined $1,800. He was also fined $200 after pleading guilty to trespassing for the purpose of hunting.

The Ministry of Natural Resources says he is not allowed to hunt game birds for one year and his ammunition and 18 goose decoys were seized. Conservation officers saw him hunting geese in a field near Tilbury and found he had corn around the goose decoys.

The public is reminded that it is illegal to hunt waterfowl within 400 metres of a site where bait has been deposited. Hunters are also prohibited from placing bait in an area where they intend to hunt within 14 days of the open season for waterfowl.
