Wheatley Residents Jump Out Window Of Burning Home

The Chatham-Kent fire department is investigating after a Wheatley home caught fire and two residents had to jump out a second floor window to escape the blaze.

According to Assistant Fire Chief Bob Davidson, the structural fire took place at 17 Elm St. in Wheatley on Saturday around 7am.

Davidson says both the Wheatley and Tilbury fire stations came to help put the fire out at the two-story home.

According to the fire department, two residents had to jump from a second floor window to escape the fire and were taken by EMS to hospital.

Damages are estimated at $120,000. About $300,000 worth of property was saved.

Davidson says quick work by fire crews prevented the fire from spreading to nearby homes.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
