Volunteers Wanted For New CKHA Board

Applications are open now for positions on the new Board of Directors that will govern the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA).

A release from the CKHA says it's the "next step" after the Erie St. Clair LHIN showed its support for the move to one board Thursday as recommended by hospital supervisor Rob Devitt.

"Now that the Erie St. Clair LHIN's review is complete, we feel that it is time to begin the process for recruiting skills-based members," said Devitt. "Returning the [CKHA] to local governance is my top priority now."

Devitt says "the bar will be set high" when it comes to finding new board members, adding "hospitals are complex organizations that require skilled boards drawn from a diverse set of backgrounds to ensure that patient-focused high-quality care, accountability, and transparency is the prime focus of the organization."

Devitt will be leading the recruitment and selection process with the support of a "Nominations and Selection Committee." An advertisement is now posted at www.askckha.com with all of the documents posted under "Governance."

The job posting says prospective members looking to join the board as volunteers "should expect to devote approximately 10 to 15 hours per month" to hospital business, which would include attending regular board and committee meetings.

Interested applicants are being asked to submit a cover letter and a resume via email quoting "CKHA Board Recruitment" in the subject line to jon@waterhousesearch.com by January 19, 2018. The application should also include any related experience and skills.

The new board will have 12 directors one from each of the six wards, one from the first nations community, and five others who will be selected to ensure proper representation of all communities across Chatham-Kent.
