Health Canada Approves Medical Pot Facility In CK

A medical marijuana facility in Chatham has been given the green light by the federal government.

Health Canada has officially approved a cannabis production licence for AgMedica Bioscience Inc. (formally AgriMed Botanicals Inc.), which has a cultivation facility located within Chatham.

In a news release, the company says it intends to begin the first stage of cultivation at its facility in the coming weeks.  The Chatham location has an annual production capacity of 6,000 kg pharmaceutical-grade indoor cannabis.

“We believe that AgMedica has one of the largest, if not the largest, initial capacity of any newly licensed producer of cannabis in Canada. While we are celebrating this accomplishment, we realize this is just one more milestone on our journey to become a global leader in cannabis production as well as the development and commercialization of cannabis-derived products that positively impacts the health and well-being of our customers," says Art Vander Pol, CEO of AgMedica, in the news release.

The company says it has plans to eventually expand its facility's current capacity to 26,500 kg.
