Teen Speeder Pulls Over To The Wrong Shoulder

If you see flashing lights in your rearview mirror, make sure you follow the officer's directions about where to pull over.

That's the message from Chatham-Kent OPP after a recent traffic stop on the Hwy. 401.

A 19-year-old man from the Toronto-area learned that lesson the hard way at around 11:30pm Monday night when he was pulled over for speeding.

Officers say the vehicle the man was driving was recorded going more than 150 km/h in the eastbound lanes of the Hwy. 401 near Harwich Rd.

Police say when they were pulling the man over, he stopped next to the centre median instead of pulling over to the right shoulder. As a result, police had to stop traffic on the highway temporarily for safety reasons until the vehicle that was pulled over made its way over to the paved shoulder.

A 19-year-old man from Bradford-West Gwillimbury, Ontario is now charged with stunt driving and interfering with traffic. His driver's licence has been suspended and his vehicle has been taken away temporarily.
