Employment Is Up In CK

The latest employment numbers for Chatham-Kent are pointing to growth across the municipality.

Municipal officials say 49,700 people were working in September, pushing employment in the area to its highest level since December 2016. That also helped to drop the local jobless rate below 6% for just the second time in 11 years -- it was at 5.9% in September.

Chatham-Kent's Acting Director of Economic Development Stuart McFadden says the local economy is still growing, too, with 1,700 jobs being added over the past four months.

"Employers are telling us they are looking for employees in a variety of sectors, especially skilled trades," says McFadden, in a release. "Helping these companies promote the available jobs they have today, and the jobs they are projecting will be required in the future, is a focus of ours right now."
