Housing prices in Chatham-Kent are still rising as strong sales continue in the region.
The Chatham-Kent Association of Realtors (CKAR) says 130 homes were sold in October 2017, setting a new record high for the month. That also pushes up the year-to-date sales to 1,244 units sold so far in 2016, putting it just shy of the same period in 2016.
CKAR President Kristi Willder says the strong sales in October show the market is continuing to heat up after cooling down in the middle of the summer.
"Home sales bounced back following a very brief slowdown in July and they continue to move higher," says Willder. "With the market still as tight as ever, prices continue to push higher."
The average price of the homes that were sold last month was $185,477, that's up almost 11% compared to October 2016.
There isn't as much selection on the market as there usually is this time of the year, though. There were only 320 active residential listings on CKAR's MLS System at the end of October -- that's the lowest level for this time of year in more than 25 years.
