The Friends of the New Animal Shelter in Chatham-Kent are celebrating a recent fundraiser as a "roaring success" after raising nearly $15,000 through a concert and a private donation.
The Lion Sings Tonight, which was held at the Capitol Theatre in Chatham on Friday, November 3, raised just under $5,000 for the cause, which continues to move closer to its goal of raising $1.5-million.
The campaign was further boosted by a private donation from Karen DeKoning, who handed over a cheque for $10,000.
“It was my way to challenge community people like me to get behind this most important project,” said DeKoning in a media release.
Dr. Bruce Warwick with the Friends of the New Animal Shelter accepted it on behalf of the group, adding the concert was a "perfect evening" with "fabulous talent."
The campaign still needs about $240,000 to reach its goal.
