OPP Lay Three Stunt Driving Charges In Chatham-Kent

Three Drivers Charged With Stunt Driving

Chatham-Kent OPP say they stopped a trio of drivers over the weekend who are all charged with stunt driving now.

Officers say they pulled over the first driver just before 8pm Friday after seeing a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed in the westbound lanes of the highway near Scane Rd. Police say that same vehicle was later recorded going in excess of 150 km/h.

A 25-year-old London man is now charged with racing and possessing more than one licence.

In the second case, police say an officer in the same area of the Hwy. 401 near Scane Rd. recorded a vehicle going faster than 160 km/h just after 2:30pm Saturday.

Police say a 45-year-old Oakville driver was pulled over in that case and charged with racing.

A third vehicle was pulled over shortly after that at around 3:45pm Saturday. Officers say this time, it was closer to County Rd. 42. An officer reportedly recorded a vehicle going faster than 155 km/h and charged a 28-year-old Mississauga man with racing in connection with that traffic stop.

All of the drivers had their licences and their vehicles taken away for seven days.

Officers are also reminding the public that if you're caught going 50km/h or more over the limit, your punishment can include a fine of up to $10,000, six demerit points, six months in jail, and a licence suspension of up to two years for your first conviction.

Chatham-Kent OPP say in addition to pulling three drivers off the road, they also took a speed measuring warning device out of someone's vehicle.

Officers say they found it in a vehicle on the Hwy. 401 near Kennesserie Rd. at around 4:15pm Saturday after pulling over a vehicle for committing a traffic violation.

Police say a 44-year-old LaSalle man is now charged in connection with the case.
