Animal Shelter Gets $100K Donation

Friends of the New Animal Shelter are closer to reaching their fundraising goal, thanks to a $100,000 donation from the Ridge Landfill Community Trust.

The donation comes just a few days after the shelter presented an update to their fundraising efforts to council on Monday.

Project Coordinator Lynn McGeachy Schultz said in a media release that the campaign still needs $250,000 to reach its $1.5-million goal.

“This is an excellent example of how corporate and community groups can support long standing needs and at the same time build for the future," said McGeachy Schultz. "The dream of a new shelter to care for animals within the municipality will be a reality.”

Once the proper amount is raised, the shelter will be built adjacent to the current facility, located on Park Ave. in Chatham.
