CKPS Rolling Out Rolling Dispatch

Chatham-Kent police are going ahead with a new computer-aided dispatch service.

They conducted a 60-day pilot project to test its efficiency and the test officers liked it because their productivity increased.

Chief Gary Conn says tablets in the cruisers will allow officers to communicate with dispatch directly and provide instant access to calls and data to better serve the community and improve officer safety.

The chief says the new software turns cruisers into a rolling office or a mobile workstation.

The new software has a GPS system that provides coordinates and tracking.

The total cost to outfit all 40 vehicles with software is $139,000 and $38,000 a year for all annual licenses.

All officers will be trained and the system fully functional by March.
