Union Gas Employees In Chatham Make Pledge To United Way

Union Gas employees in Chatham are once again ready to help the United Way of Chatham-Kent.

The Chatham location kicked off its 2017 drive Tuesday morning and is pledging at least $200,000.

Union Gas Vice President of Distribution Operations Mike Shannon says his employees are always eager to help others who are less fortunate.

"I get to see first hand the generous and caring Union Gas employees that we have by stepping up and donating their time, energy and their money," says Shannon.

All employee donations will be matched by the company.

In 2016, all Union Gas locations across Ontario combined to raise almost $980,000 for the United Way.

Shannon says Union Gas shares the United Way's vision of strengthening communities.

"Here in Chatham-Kent, we support 21 agency programs and 13 direct programs, which reflect the United Way Chatham-Kent's focus areas from poverty to possibilities, healthy people and strong communities and all that kids can be," he says.

Shannon says the United Way provides many services to a lot of people.

"From the VON's kid circle program to the epilepsy support centre and the many services in between, one in three people in Chatham-Kent are touched by the United Way. That's a very big number," he says.
