Time To Help CK United Way Help Others

This year's United Way of Chatham-Kent fundraising campaign kicks-off Friday night.

Just after 8pm, the agency will reveal the amount of money it hopes to raise to keep services running throughout the year for many deserving community groups and agencies.

Tom Slager of United Way Chatham-Kent says this year's campaign looks similar to other years but will focus more on the impact the fundraising has.

"When you support the United Way, what does it mean, what does it accomplish, what does it do? I think over the next couple of months you're going to see a lot more concrete stories about the impact that it makes in people's lives," says Slager.

The 2017 United Way fundraising campaign lasts until the end of December.

Slager says it's heartwarming to see how the donations touch so many lives.

"Our Campaign Chair last year, Patricia Wright, she was in an accident and had a brain injury and she used a number of services funded by the United Way throughout her life. She's gone from being wheelchair bound to last year, she was one of our co-chairs for the campaign," Slager says.

Slager says last year's campaign chair saw first hand how the United Way works.

"She was all over Chatham-Kent and she's received to the point now where she's a para-athlete and a world champion in karate. We helped people be in place to give her the assistance that she needed to recover enough to where she has a full life now," says Slager.
