Chatham Man Arrested After Standoff With Police

A Chatham man has been arrested for allegedly assaulting his roommate with a baseball bat and threatening him with a firearm.

Police say Tuesday at around 3pm, the man was inside his residence on Park Ave. W in Chatham when his roommate came over to gather some of his personal belongings. According to police, the roommate did not get an answer at the front door, so he crawled through a basement window to get into the residence.

Officers say once the accused man's roommate got inside, he was met by the man who had a baseball bat in one hand and a firearm in the other. The man allegedly pointed the firearm at the roommate, threatened him, and then hit him with the baseball bat. The roommate left the residence, but did not contact police.

Later that night at around 8pm, the roommate returned the residence. According to police, when the roommate knocked at the front door, he was allegedly met again by the man who was holding the bat and firearm in his hands. Police say the roommate was threatened again, so he left and contacted police. No injuries were reported.

A 63-year-old Chatham man was charged with the following offences:
