Chatham Concert Band Playing All-Request Show

The Chatham Concert Band is wrapping up its summer shows with one final show Wednesday night in Tecumseh Park.

Bandmaster and Conductor Vaughn Pugh says they have something special planned to celebrate.

"Tonight's show is an all-request night, but the kicker is that it's not an audience request, it's a band request," says Pugh. "We're going to end up playing music like Pocahontas from the kids' concert, we'll play Eagles from when we did the country concert, Beatles music, Guys and Dolls, New York New York, you name it, we're doing it tonight."

Bandmaster and Conductor Vaughn Pugh says they didn't hold a formal practice this week, but they did play through their set list in front of a special audience.

"On Monday what we went to Riverview Gardens -- this has become an annual thing -- we perform for the residents there what we're going to play in concert this Wednesday," says Pugh. "It's great for us, and it's a good time."

Wednesday night's free show starts at 7:30pm at Tecumseh Park in Chatham.

Pugh says after the show, the band will take a bit of a break in September for about three weeks before they get back to rehearsals every Monday night at 7:30pm.

He says anyone who plays a concert band instrument is welcome to get a hold of the Chatham Concert Band through their website in order to join in on the rehearsals.
