CK Tourism Makes Travelling Easier With New Maps

To ease the burden of travelling during recent crashes and construction on Hwy. 401, Chatham-Kent Tourism is offering free detour maps.

The CKDetourist maps were created to help drivers find alternative routes through Chatham-Kent when roads are especially backed up. For instance, the map provides a way out of the long stretch of construction between Essex Rd. 42 and Kent Bridge Rd., where vehicles are forced to drive in a single lane.

"We still have another four months of construction, so we encourage people to use our CKDetourist maps, and take an alternative route like Hwy. 2," explains Supervisor of Tourism Development Shannon Paiva.

Paiva encourages CK residents to offer a map to new visitors and travelers to the area.

"Giving them the best information possible we can, will go a long way in showcasing how wonderful not only the area is, but how friendly our residents are as well," says Paiva.

Paiva says anyone can pick up a copy of the map at the Chatham-Kent Tourism information centre or download an electronic version online.

Within a span of three days between July 28 and July 31, Hwy. 401 was closed on three occasions in Chatham-Kent due to separate multi-vehicle crashes.
