CK Book Lovers Go Digital (GALLERY)

The Chatham-Kent Public Library took reading to the next level at the Digital Bookmobile National Tour Event.

The bookmobile made a special stop at the library on Monday as part of its coast to coast tour. The 42 ft long bus is powered by the digital distributor OverDrive and equipped with WIFI, computers, touchscreen monitors, and portable media players.

Librarian Megan Cowan says the idea behind the coast-to-coast tour is to encourage more readers to try different types of digitized reading.

"This is just to make people get excited about OverDrive, maybe get them started if they're not sure how to get started. We are always here to help at the library," says Cowan.

During the free tour, visitors had the opportunity to learn about how to borrow digital books, explore a variety of devices, and chat with experts.

Cowan says the library is working to promote its digital catalogue to readers.

"It expands our collection beyond our walls. It's available 24/7 access. As long as you have internet you can get it. If you don't have internet at home, you can download the books here and bring them back. There are no late fees, so you don't have to worry about that," explains Cowan.

Cowan says anyone with a valid CKPL library card or virtual card can access the wide range of eBooks and audio books both online and at the library.
